Hello my name is
Jess
I am a parent and educator with a passion for providing real-life skills to growing minds. I believe in a practical approach to education. Every educator knows that best practice creates a fantastic framework for consistent education, but sometimes there is a stopgap where the rubber meets the road. That is why I have created these simple, yet effective, and most importantly - engaging lesson plans to prepare our future generations for real-life.
My Teaching Philosophy
Today’s schools are run much the same as they were 50 years ago, but today’s workers need a much different skill set. We no longer need factory workers; we need critical thinkers, collaborators, innovators, and youth that question the status quo. For so long in the classroom, skills have been the vehicle to teach content. As a teacher, I want to flip the script - content should be the vehicle for skills. Students don’t need to know that the mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell; they need to know how to evaluate data, make arguments from evidence, and be given the opportunity to practice resiliency, resourcefulness, and creativity. Today’s youth are tomorrow's leaders; why aren’t we teaching them the skills they need to excel in the real world? Why are we not teaching them to question why things are the way they are, and have the skills to bring positive change to the future? I believe in teaching students these skills, and making them feel empowered, important, and valued in my classroom. Today’s youth will change the world as we know it, and I am here to help them get there.
